Constitution Party
A Brick in Dave's Wall: First Newsletter from the Constitution Party
At the above link, Dave has a copy of a recent newsletter from the Constitution party. I actually voted for Pieroutka in the last election, and may do so again. The criticism of the Bush administration in the newsletter is valid I think, But I have the following questions:
James Clymer, the party chairman, makes the following statements in his above mentioned letter:
President Bush’s enthusiasm for opening our already porous southern border even further by granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, and for propelling America into the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA), went almost unnoticed
I welcome discussion on border protection. Wern't the founders of this county "illegal aliens?" Any of our forefathers that arrived before the end of the 19th century, certainly came across a "porous border."
Secondly, what is it I am supposed to hate about "free trade," again?
His pandering to environmental extremists in the proposed Clear Skies Initiative – which would have provided a framework for regulating American industry even more severely than the Kyoto Pact – was virtually ignored.
As a Christian, who believes God intends for us to be good stewards of this earth, I have a problem with this statement. When I was looking for a party a few years ago, I could have sworn that the Constitutionalists expressed a healthy environmentalism. Was I wrong?
I agree with the criticism of cutting taxes, without a corresponding cut in government excess. I agree that Iraq was/is a mistake. I agree the administration blew it with its response to Katrina, and that this shows the emphasis is oversees and not at home.
But one further concern I have, is that if I recall correctly, when I was researching the Constitution party, they had some links to some sites that gave me concern, due to the use of the Confederate flag. Don't get me wrong, I am a "states righter" from way back (This Yankee was born in the heart of Dixie afterall, and only had anscesotrs who wore gray in that war.) I would support the right of any state to seceed, even in this day and age. But I think the Confederate flag is insensitive, even though folks who use intend to show "states rights," to African-Ameican and others, it is seen as a symbol of racism.
So....Am I in the right party? Is there any other party that might be a better fit? Should I be in ANY party?

I am trying to learn this as well. And for that reason I won't argue with your comments on the Confederate flag. :)
