A Tribute to a Friend
Brian Haima (born January 29, 1966, died January 22, 2005) with his wife Mendy and sons Brian Jr. and Alex.
Brian passed away yesterday after a long bout with cancer. He was a good freind, better then I could ever hope to be. He loved his family deeply. He had a deep love for the youth of this country, and had dedicated his life in bringing them to faith in Christ.
We hope to drive out to Syracuse Monday night for the funeral on Tuesday. I hope to share more about his life, and his impact on his friends.
Memory eternal, O ever blessed brother.
Well, it was with sorrow that we buried our friend, son, husband, brother, father, youth-pastor Brian yesterday. But was it now a sorrow tinged with joy? A "joyful sorrow?" For certainly we can say as St. Paul said...it's not as if we are like those who have no hope! For while we cannot understand in this lifetime, why God allowed cancer to take Brian's life at such a young age, we can trust Him, that He will not give us a cross to bear, without it being for our salvation. I pray for Mendy and the boy esp., that as they sorrow, that God's peace and joy will be a part of that.
It was indeed a joyful celbration, even as sad as it was. It was brought up by several people, how it did not take long for the tear filled hugs, to turn into laughter, as we recalled Brian, his unique personality and his adventures (and mis-adventures!) It was a joy to see old freinds, brought together by our love for Brian and Mendy.
There was much talk of a benefit/memorial to be held here in the Buffalo area, in late march at the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Orchard Park. Keep an eye to this column and I'll keep you updated as information becomes available.
Christ our eternal King and God, You have destroyed death and the devil by Your Cross and have restored man to life by Your Resurrection; give rest, Lord, to the soul of Your servant Brian who has fallen asleep, in Your Kingdom, where there is no pain, sorrow or suffering. In Your goodness and love for all men, pardon all the sins he has committed in thought word or deed, for there is no man or woman who lives and sins not, You only are without sin.
For You are the Resurrection, the Life, and Repose of Your servant Brian, departed this life, O Christ our God; and to You do we send up glory with Your Eternal Father and Your All-holy, Good and Life-creating Spirit; both now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen
I'll post links of other tributes to Brian, please keep sending them my way...
This young man dedicates a Vince Gill song for "Bri."
Paul Allen in his "Ramblings" says this:
This Tuesday I went to the funeral of a really great friend, Brian Haima.
There are very few guys that really mean as much to me as Brian has for almost 10 years. We both served as youth pastors in Upstate NY. From that we became great friends. Needless to say, I am going to miss him alot.
